Jocelyn Darice Rice, beloved daughter of the Reverend Dr. Calvin and Willie Mae Rice departed this earth and transitioned on to glory on July 6, 2017. Jocelyn was born at St. Vincent's Medical Hospital, Staten Island, NY on April 4, 1983. Jocelyn grew up on Staten Island and attended Public School #44, Intermediate School #72, and graduated from Port Richmond High School. Jocelyn continued her studies and pursued her Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Staten Island with English as her major. As a student at the College of Staten Island, Jocelyn served as an intern with the Liberty Partnership Program, under the leadership of Councilwoman, Ms. Deborah Rose. Jocelyn was blessed with the gift of persuasion. She utilized that skill set in her most recent places of employment where she worked as a sales representative for the Combined Insurance Company and for the Esso Gas Company. Jocelyn was an avid reader of all kinds of literature and enjoyed engaging in intellectual conversations. She enjoyed TV game shows where she could exercise her literary skills such as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune; she was the all time “scrabble champion” of the Rice clan. Brown Bethel Community Church, SI Recessional Jocelyn joined First Central Baptist Church at an early age serving as a youth nurse and on the youth choir. She also was a member of the GYO - God’s Youth Organization under the leadership of Reverend Judy Brown and Ms. Wanda Gilliam. Jocelyn later joined her family at the New Jerusalem Worship Center under the leadership of her father Reverend Dr. Calvin Rice. She served and loved helping with children's ministry and often volunteered wherever she was needed with the Women's Ministry. Jocelyn touched many lives along her journey and she will be fondly remembered for her kindhearted and unassuming nature. She leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Breanna and Yisreal. She will be remembered in love by her parents, Reverend Dr. Calvin and Willie Mae Rice, and her siblings, Kalvin Rice, Keisha (Rice) Wiggan and “big brother” Wendell Samuel. Jocelyn also leaves her nephews, Chris Jr., Kameron and niece, Courtney. She will also be dearly missed by her seven aunts, four uncles, and a host of cousins.
