Reginald McCoy at age 69 passed away Saturday April 6, 2024, at Staten Island University Hospital. Born September 17, 1955, in Staten Island, New York to Amelia McCoy and the late Floyd McCoy Sr. Reggie was a native Staten Islander and the second eldest of the McCoy 7. His love of singing began at a young age in the choir at Halls Temple Church. His passion continued in his youth when becoming a memberoftheSunshinebandandlateramemberofthe Harmonizing 6. He eventually went on to record his first record as one of the lead vocalists in The McCoy Singers. He also had a love for automobiles which was introduced to him while doing auto repairs with his father, the late Floyd McCoy Sr. While working with his grandfather, William H. Glover, he was inspired by him to pave his own entrepreneurial path in auto mechanic repairs. From that point he became a lifelong master mechanic and enjoyed working with his brothers, cousins, friends and son, Regg Regg. He was a traveling man, entertaining, aminated and an expressive storyteller with an infectious laugh. He loved God, and his family and friends. He was always there when you needed him. He was the one you could call no matter the time of day or night. He loved to eat, cook and could throw a BBQ together in seconds. That's how he got the Title of Grill Master. He always wanted everyone to be happy and enjoy themselves at gatherings. He was a kind soul and wanted people to feel welcomed. He loved dancing, beautiful woman, his coffee black, and pancakes with bananas. He loved his Kung-Fu movies, that he would re- enact when they were finished, chicken, Jack Daniels and motorcycles. And of course, cars, especially the fast ones. He breathed the entrepreneurial spirit into his children and all children around him, even some adults. He was a philosopher and teacher. He was a jack of all trades and a master MacGyver. He was a leader and always had a jewel to drop if you were willing to listen and even if you weren't. He left a great impact on everyone he crossed paths with and was a one-of-a-kind soul that will be dearly missed. Reggie was proceeded in death by his father Floyd McCoy Sr. and brother William McCoy Sr. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Amelia McCoy, his brothers Floyd McCoy Sr., Franky McCoy, Henry McCoy, Jeffery McCoy and only sister, Margaret McCoy-Arsenec. Five children, Schekinah (Keke) Ortiz, Reginald Prendergass, Nohelani McCoy, Sade' White, Henry McCoy. Grandchildren Joseph Prendergass, Justin Prendergass, Terrance Dore', Naima Dore', Jesenia Prendergass, Tyrese Dore', Solaje' McCoy-Afolabi, Malina McCoy, and Kal'el McCoy. His life partner of over a decade, Vivian Daniels, her children, Hymina, Alea, Allura, Anthony and grandchildren Alexandra, Avion, Amelia and Jackson. His Uncle Mac McCoy Sr., William Glover Sr. (Ida), aunt, Thelma Yarborough and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. I'm Free Don't grieve for me for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all Icould not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow My life's been full, I've savored much, Good friends, good times, my loved one's touch If my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now... He set me free. -Anne Lindgren Davison Acknowledgments The family of the late Reginald McCoy wishes to acknowledge with deep, appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to their family during this time of bereavement.
