Pamel Edwards, 68, of Staten Island, NY, departed on April 20, 2020. Pamela, affectionately known as “Pam “ was born on February 9, 1952 on Staten Island, NY to Willa Mae and Claude D. Edwards of Selma Alabama.
Raised in a family committed to higher education and community outreach, upon completing her education at Port Richmond High School on Staten Island, Pam went on to explore course work at The College of Staten Island. Committed to empowering young people, Pam worked at Whitney M. Young Day Care Center’s after school program and also worked as a Counselor for Catholic Charities. In her spare time, Pam volunteered at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and fed invalids at Seaview Hospital in Ocean Breeze Terrace.
Always a woman of faith, Pam taught Sunday school at Shiloh AME Zion Church in her youth and was a junior organist there. Pam’s adult church family remains the Missionary Ministry at Fellowship Baptist Church.
An unwavering Christian, being a Prayer Warrior and enjoying Fellowship were the cement of her community. Pam loved her family and friends with all of her heart. She was especially proud of her daughter Niccole and grandson Jalen. Pam was a kind hearted woman who never passed up an opportunity to liven a conversation by telling stories or jokes. Among her many sweet qualities, good humor endeared her to everyone she interacted with including the staff at Vanderbilt Nursing Home on Staten Island, her last place of residence. The staff there were fond of Pam and always spoke warmly about her. The void Pam’s passing creates will stay full of warm memories of her laughter, joyful dancing, bright eyes and warm smile.
Pamela is preceded in death by her father Claude D. Edwards and younger brother Carl D. Edwards. Pamela leaves to lovingly cherish her memory Felix James, her life Partner, her daughter Niccole (Edwards) Thompson and grandson Jalen Claude Thompson, Mother Willa Mae Edwards, Brother Earl Edwards and Sister Claudine Lewis. Sisters in law Dorothy Edwards and Deborah Edwards, Brother in law Dr. Antonio Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
