At sunrise on Monday, April 1, 2024, Edwin R. Johnson “Eddie” entered eternal rest at the age of 87 years old.

On October 31, 1936, A gracious son was born to the parents of Eltina Stewart and Henry Lee Johnson. After visiting the Welcome family in La Ceiba, Honduras, on several occasions, at the age of eight years old, Eric and Ruth Welcome Eddie soon after became a new member of the Welcome family, mother Welcome, mother as he lovingly called her, once in La Ceiba Honduras he expressed a passion for academia as much as the other brothers and sister. As a result, Edwin received his early years of education at the United Methodist Church private school in La Ceiba. Soon after, Eddie joined the Honduran Air Force in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where he developed, a fascination for airplanes and anything related to space and the firmament. At the Air Force, he also improved his favorite sport baseball which on some occasions played against the American teams that visited in Honduras.

Once in the United States Edwin continued to develop his educational dream. He developed a career in the field of Health.
Edwin worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Boulevard Hospital in Long Island for 25 years. During that time, he also started a family with his lovely wife, Jannet, Johnson, and son, Edwin Junior.  Edwin Also worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Staten Island for 25 years as a Respiratory therapist. He also worked at the same hospital as an assistant pharmacist. Eddie then retired in 2014.

Edwin was a member of the Brighton Heights Reform church for 59 years. He was an Elder, a member of the men’s Sanctuary Choir, an usher and participated and helped in many other activities at the church. Eddie loved his church and all those that he encountered.
Eddie was known for his participation in the beautiful Christmas Drama at the St. George Theatre from its inception until he became ill. In 2022 he was honored by the St George Theater group. Edwin believed in hard work, caring for his family and serving the Lord.

Eddie is survived by his sister, Veronica Johnson, Sullivan Jones, his brother Selvin Johnson. His brothers Steward, Dolvin Johnson and Lance Ford Johnson are deceased. His nieces, Lovely Carley Kendra Harris, Garret, Karen Harris, Pearl Johnson, Dana Johnson, Wanda Johnson, Emelda and his nephew, Christopher and Wilbert Johnson. His sister Charlene welcome Hollis and brother Henry A welcome, and a host of other nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

As he enters that peace that passeth  all understanding may he be remembered for his companionate heart for helping others, his spirit of giving, and his tireless love for God and his church.
