Russell Walton 75, passed away on Friday January 28th at
New York Community Hospital in Brooklyn.
He was born in New York, the second oldest of 10 children
to the late Ernest and Jean Walton. Russell was educated in the
Staten Island School System.
Russell worked at Willowbrook State School as a carpenter for a
number of years. After leaving Willowbrook, Russell established his
own construction company renovating Commercial and
properties in Brooklyn, Long Island, Staten Island and New Jersey.
As a young man he enjoyed playing league soft ball, putting on and
modeling in fashion shows. Family and friends knew him best as “Uncle
Russell” who officiated at barbecues and large-scale family dinners.
He was best known for his ribs and fried turkey. One of his greatest
Joys was delivering home cooked meals to the homeless on
Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. A civic function he performed until his first stroke in 2019. But his favorite times were spending time with his grandson Nyzaya.
Russell is pre-deceased by his mother and father Ernst and Jean Walton. Brothers Ernest Augcomfar, George Walton, and Victor Walton. Sisters Cynthia Brooks, Pamalla Walton Edwards, and Carmina Carlin
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his partner of 40 years Alice Frazier. His children Russell Walton, Keven Walton, Tamark Walton, Santrell Smith, Earnest Baker, Russell Baker, Margarete Baker, and the late Lisa Walton. Two sisters Ida Jean Hymon, Donna Walton Covington and brother David Walton. Aunts Alice Robinson of Staten Island, Joanne Walton of Georgia, Pamela R. Eldemire of Caman Brack, Vedelle Bloom Ripley of Caman Brack and Lynn Walton of Caman Brack. Uncles Albert Walton of Georgia, George A. Walton of Caman Brack and Donald West of Staten Island And a host grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
