RICHARD BERNARD BEATTY LIFE RELECTIONS
Richard Bernard Beatty, also known as "Richie", was born on October 10, 1958, to Leander Beatty Senior and Margaret McRae Beatty, both of whom preceded him in death. Richie was the eighth of ten children: Barbara, Helen, Jacqueline, Leander Jr., Lydia, Jeffrey, Mildred, Victoria and Samuel. In addition to his parents, Richie was preceded in death by Jacqueline, Lydia, and Samuel.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Richie was educated in (the) New York Public Schools until graduating in 1977. After graduation, Richie enlisted in The US Army, serving proudly and honorably as a cook until discharge after six years of service. It was during this time of service that he met and married the love of his life, Stephanie Romyra Lyons, in August of 1978. Their union would produce his oldest daughter, Monique. The marriage was short-lived, however, as Stephanie passed away on December 29, 1982.
Returning to New York after his service was over, Richie and Monique relocated to Staten Island to be with family and a host of friends. His years on Staten Island would also produce two other children, Sausha Beatty and Richard Hakeem Beatty, along with five beautiful grandchildren, Destinee Beatty, Desmond Weather Jr, Za'Niyah Weather, A’yonna Beatty and Marcel Beatty.
Richie was an avid fisherman, spending as much time as possible at the many ponds across Staten Island and New York City.
Richie was well-known throughout Staten Island and later in life to many in Midtown Manhattan, his residence for the final years of his life. However, Richard put fishing on the back burner, working for several years as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor to young men and women returning to civilian life from prison.
And perhaps his greatest accomplishment in life was when Richie declared Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 2012. Although he had his trials and issues (as we all do), Richie tried his best to serve God faithfully throughout the remainder of his life.
On February 3, 2023, Richie received his call to glory, leaving behind his family and many friends. Despite known medical issues, his passing was "sudden" and unexpected. But because He gave his life to the Lord, there is no doubt that Richie rests peacefully for eternity. He will truly be missed by everyone whose life he touched.
