Nicolas E. Nunez, also known as Big Nu or Clyde was born December 3, 1964, to the late Faith Shirley-Wood and Joseph Edward Nunez of Queens, New York.

Nicholas promised his wife that no matter what, he would keep fighting. On January 16, 2024, at 59 years old, Nicholas was released from his promise to let God do his will.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, NY, as a child, he formed friendships that developed into fifty years of a lifelong bond. Black Cats for Life!

Nicholas played high school football and baseball. He attended Lincoln University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, he pledged to Omega Psi Phi., His degree led him to a career as an NY State Corrections Officer for over twenty-five years. Nicholas stood firm in doing his job to the best of his ability. He believed in training newer officers the correct way to jail. His wife would always say, “You don’t have to be part of the welcome committee” his response “Stop being so dammed mean.” Nicholas continued to be part of that welcome committee; he continued to be your advisor, counselor, therapist, and, most of all, your friend. Whatever anyone needed, Big Nu was there. As most would know, Nicholas was a music lover and the king of Sneaker Heads.

Nicholas leaves behind to celebrate his life and mourn his passing, his wife and best friend Evangeline D. Nunez, sister Leslie White, brother Dennis Speller Sr., daughters Noelle and Samantha, son Darryl, grandchildren MyKayla, Makai, Amir, Autumn, and Rylee-Simone. Mother-in-law Charlena Johnson, Sisters-in-law Wanda and Theresa, brother-in-law Alix. Nephews Dennis Speller Jr., whom Nicholas loved like a son, Brian, Trent, and Marcus. Nieces Brittany and Bria, great niece Meya Daniel, great nephew Quincy Allen, and a host of family and friends.
