Naomi Dudley passed away on April 24th, 2021 at the tender age of 94 in her Staten Island, New York home. She was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina to parents Aggie Nora Dudley and Dorhan (Dude) Dudley; She attended the Laurinburg Institute in her native town of North Carolina. After completing her education, Naomi left the South and ventured to the Big Apple. Once settled in New York, Naomi worked as a skilled and talented seamstress in factories throughout Manhattan. Years later she switched professions and became a day care provider. Naomi had many hobbies and interest like playing lotto and scratch offs. Her hobbies also included her love for animals. Naomi loved horses and dogs. As an adult, she began collecting elephant sculptures, stuffed animals and other knick knacks. Her collection of elephant items has surpassed well over 100!
Naomi will be remembered for her joyful laughter, her amazing cooking skills, and her newfound interest in golf and tennis. Voting for and seeing Barack Obama elected as the First Black President of the United States was one of the biggest highlights of her life. Many people will miss her shoot from the hip, no holds bar “straight talk” and facial expressions. She gave tough love to the whole family, No one could do it like Naomi. Her longtime friendships with Marie L Diggs, Caroline Jackson, Marilyn Damion, Esther Reece, Helen Collins, Delores Robinson, Gladys Hines and Sara added such happiness and adventure to her life.
Naomi is survived by her sister Rev. Yvonne Stradford and her husband Rudolph Stradford. She is also survived by her daughter Cynthia Louise Dudley, as well as her grandchildren Lynelle Cross (husband Ricky Cross), Edward Griggs, Willy Griggs (wife Estefania Griggs), Jasmine Griggs, Sharif Griggs and Joshua Griggs. Naomi was blessed enough to help raise her great grandchildren Natalie, Edward, Elijah, Ramayah, Jeremiah, Gabriella, Autumn, and Kenya. And a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Naomi was predeceased by her parents Aggie Nora Dudley and Dorhan (Dude) Dudley. She was also predeceased by her siblings James Dudley, Edith Carter, Mary L. Brown, Dorhan Dudley Jr, Catherine Bethea, Grace Dudley, John Dudley and Rudolph Dudley.
