Mitchell Jenkins, affectionately known as “Mitch” passed away on December 29, 2023, at home in Albany NY.
He was born to Albertha and William Tom Jenkins on May 18, 1958, in Brooklyn NY, the same city that he would call home for most of his life until he moved to Albany NY in 1996.
Mitch attended JHS 57 and later received his GED Diploma in 1977. He enrolled in the US ARMY and received an Honorable Discharge in 1979.
Mitch worked at the University of Albany until he retired in 2020 as a maintenance engineer.
Mitch loved to spend his time with his significant other JoAnne, watching football, basketball, smoking his Newport cigarettes and listening to his music.
Boy, could he fry some chicken, shrimps, and pork chops.
Mitch’s siblings, remember him as a man who loved watching westerns and imitating Tom Jones in front of the TV.
His hearty laugh and generous spirit extended beyond his family. Mitch was well-known for his dry humor.
Predeceased by his parents Albertha and William Tom Jenkins, stepfather George Washington, his brothers, Michael and Chris Jenkins, his son Mitchell Durrell Nixon.
Mitch leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and service to our country.
He is survived by his devoted significant other Joanne Johnson; his siblings, Willie Lee Dowling (Clary), Roberta Cochran (Henry), Reginald (Lydia), his nieces, LaTanya, Kimmeisa, Shaquana, Cheryl, Kakeshia, nephews Clary Jr, Henry Jr, Benjamin, Aunt Arita Thomas, and Uncle Jaccob Moses. And a host of grand nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Services to honor Mitch’s life will be held at a later day to be advised.
Psalm 46:1 points out: “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
Psalm 34:18 encourages us:
