Obituary

Michael Charles Julius Langston aka Big Mike passed away peacefully on October 22, 2020 in his Staten Island home. He was the beloved son of Victor and Melinda Langston born in Staten Island on June 3, 1973.  Mikey always made sure to visit with his mother often; he was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, friend and family man.

Mikey was known since childhood to be fun-loving and to always have a smile on his face. He attended school at P.S. 44, I.S 72, and Mckee High School where he graduated with a Regents Honors Diploma. Mikey loved Mckee, he excelled in science, math, and the debate team; where he learned to be argumentative with the help of one of his teachers Mrs. Jessica Smith whom he affectionately called his second mother.

Since the age of ten Mikey had a long dream of becoming a bus operator which was inspired by his Godfather, Robert Ford (affectionately known as Dad) and then wanted to work at Jackie Gleason Depot because he really loved the show Honeymooners. He began working for the MTA in 1997 and moved through the ranks to become an adored Supervisor/ Superintendent and where he met his best friend/brother Clyde Sheppard.

In 1999 he married Lynelle Griggs and gained his loving daughter Natalie.  Mikey never missed an episode of Jeopardy and watched Star Trek religiously, The Next Generation being his favorite. He enjoyed bowling, cigar smoking with his friends, and was the biggest San Francisco 49ers fan anyone has ever met. He loved to travel to Virginia by motorcycle for vacation to visit his best friend/brother Dennis Anderson.

The family of Michael Langston wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of his close friends, family, co-workers, and the MTA Department.

Mikey is preceded in death by Victor Langston (biological Father), Leonard Edwards (Father), Craig Edwards (Brother), Robert Langston (Uncle), Louis Powers (Uncle). Mikey is survived by His daughter Natalie Brown: His mother Melinda Edwards, His brothers Victor Langston (Christine), Christopher Edwards, Darren Edwards, and Sister Denise Williams: His Aunts Deborrah Ivy of South Carolina and Ruth Edwards of Philadelphia, PA, and Uncle Leslie Whitaker of New York.  His Nephews Hopeton Dennis and Carson Williams, His Niece Gisele Edwards.
