Lydia Beatty Obituary

Lydia Corrine Beatty

Lydia Corrine Beatty was born on June 13, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Leander and Margaret Beatty.  She was one of ten children.  Lydia was raised in Brooklyn, New York in the Brownsville and East New York area.  She received her early childhood education at Public School 137.  As the story goes, on her first day of school she cried so badly she had to be picked up early.  Lydia attended Clara Barton High School where she studied Nursing.  However, she completed a General Equivalent Diploma after a few years of studies in New Mexico.  Later, she graduated from the College of Staten Island with a certificate in Dietary Services.

Shortly after her return from New Mexico, Lydia was married by Rev. Al Sharpton to her long-time friend, the late Norman Jinks aka Hassan Mannan.  They were blessed with four sons from their union.  Later in life, she met with her life partner the late Robert Keith Tolbert.

Lydia was well known for being witty, funny, as well as being an avid reader.  Additionally, she loved solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles speedily.  However, she was most known for being someone family and friends could go to for advice and comfort in their times of need.  On Sunday August 16, 2020, Lydia C. Beatty transitioned out of this life at Richmond University Medical Center.  She leave to cherish her memory, her 4 sons; Sheron Beatty, Malachi Jinks, Elijah Beatty and Kahseem Beatty, 26 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 brothers; Leander Beatty Jr., Jeffrey Beatty, Richard Beatty (late Samuel Beatty), 4 sisters; Barbara Harper, Helen Harper, Mildred Beatty, Margaret Beatty (late Jacqueline Beatty), and a huge host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
