Kenneth Smith, fondly known to all as “Smitty” age 63, was born June 27, 1959, to the late Reverend Sylvia L. Smith and the late Deacon Jeff A. Smith in Staten Island, New York.
On Monday, April 3, 2023, Smitty departed this life suddenly while doing what he loved most being with family.
Smitty was born in Dongan Hills and raised in the area of New Brighton in Staten Island, New York.
He attended P.S. 11 and graduated from McKee Vocational High School.
During his youth he was raised up and attended Pentecostal Faith Church of God, Inc. under the leadership of his great-uncle the late Bishop James O Sarjeant.
He held many jobs, Kipps Bakery and an exterminator to name a couple. He was a jack of all trades like our father, said his sister, Valerie. If something was broken he found a way to fix it. Just call him "Mr. Fixit".
Smitty loved his family and spending time with them. He was our personal “handyman”, said his god-daughter Genny. He was always a phone call away. He also loved fixing items for his aunt Eula.
He loved all sports, but boxing and baseball was his passion. His favorite quote was "I want him Howard".
Another famous one of his quotes would be “You heard!”, said his sister, Emily.
In his youth, many knew when you saw him walking down Jersey St., he was heading to Mahoney Park carrying his bat, ball, glove and his boom box playing "Trans Europe Express".
There wasn't a moment he didn’t make everyone aware that Valerie was his baby sister. He was a "Protector". When Genny would have someone coming to do work in her house, her uncle would say you don’t need them, you got me but let me meet them first.
He loved cooking and cleaning; his face should've been on that bottle of "Mr. Clean". He didn't like any mess or anything out of place. And being this way, he would tell you to move and get out of the way. He also liked taking daily walks when the weather permitted him to.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeff Smith Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sisters Emily Smith and Valerie Smith. His nieces Genny Smith and Josetta Smith Miles of Staten Island; nephew Raymond Smith of Pennsylvania; 2 great nephews;  2 great nieces; two aunts Margaret Robinson of Georgia and Paulette Rhodes of Florida.
He will be sorely missed by many friends and family. His sudden departure without any warning leaves a hole that only God can fill, says Genny.
