Johnny Antonio Andrews, Jr., affectionately known as “Blue”, was the eldest of five children born to Johnny and Olivia Andrews. Johnny was born on November 17, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in the New Brighton area of Staten Island, NY. Blue’s family ancestry was rooted in the Caribbean islands of Saint Croix and Puerto Rico, of which he was very proud. Whenever an opportunity arose to discuss the culture with other Caribbean families, he was proud to share details of the food and music he enjoyed growing up.
Blue attended Curtis High School and graduated in 1984. Upon his graduation, he decided to pursue a career working at the NYC Law Department as a law clerk for 15 years. In 1996, he began working at First Data as a Data Entry Specialist, where he remained, until he retired in 2014.
Blue met Deirdre Huff in 1984 at a party in Park Hill section of Staten Island and it was love at first sight. On August 31, 1996, he married the love of his life and made a home in the Port Richmond area with his wife and triplets for the past 14 years.
Blue loved all genres of music with Gospel being his favorite. We could often hear his beautiful voice singing songs by; The Commission, Rance Allen and Stevie Wonder. Blue loved movies and TV shows, especially cooking shows, even though he could not cook, were his favorite past time. Friends and family could always count on him for that random text about the latest television shows, not that he was a spoiler alert, but you could definitely count on him for that update alert. You knew you had a friend in him if you got a Facebook text saying, “you need to watch!!!.” Blue was an avid boxing fan and would invite friends to watch a good match. Blue was a comedian in his own right and had to be separated from certain people (you know who you are) in church. Blue had a keen eye for details, so if you changed your appearance, he would definitely notice (don’t visit without your toenails done or have ashy feet).
Blue was a member of the First Central Baptist Church since 2006. He immediately joined the church and was a member of the choir, praise and worship team and the Marriage Ministry. He also served as co-President, with his wife, of the Marriage Ministry, it was one of the many proud moments that he shared with Deirdre. Johnny was a very spiritual man, and he had a knack for when to comfort someone; with prayer. His favorite scripture readings came from the book of Job. Blue and Deirdre’s triplets; Jada, Jarae and Johnny III, meant the world to him. The love he felt and expressed for his babies was immeasurable. The kids have countless memories of the quality time they have shared with their stay-at-home dad over the past nine years. Johnny stayed home battling kidney disease for those past nine years, but he never gave up fighting so that he could be there for his wife and kids.
On July 7, 2023, Johnny “Blue” was called home to be with the Lord and so he departed his life. Blue’s mother and father went home to the Lord and will be there with their other three babies to start this new journey. Blue leaves to cherish his memory: his Wife, Deirdre, Daughters; Jarae and Jada, Son; Johnny III, Godchildren; Kenyon and Mason, His Sisters; Naomi and Sahar, Brothers; Bryant (Nikki) and Omar (wife, Tori), Mother-in-law; Denise (husband Shakir), Sisters-in-law; Jeppeal (husband Nelson), Na’imah (husband Khalid), Tory (husband Tony) and Grace (fiancé Latifah), Brothers-in-law; Rance (wife Vonetta), Aaron, David, and Joshua. Blue will also be fondly remembered by a host of relatives and close friends. May his soul rest in peace.
