James A. Grant lll passed on Feb 10, 2021, falling ill at home. He was born March 19,1961 in Harlem, NY to James Jr. and Agnes L. Grant. It was a large Caribbean extended family. His mother Agnes had emigrated from Jamaica, his paternal grandmother Marie from St. Lucia and his grandfather James Sr. from Trinidad &Tobago.

He graduated from Harlem Preparatory H.S and attended Wagner College majoring in music. His love for music and performing was further incubated by his participation in the Jazzmobile Workshops led by many of the Jazz greats such as Ramsey Lewis, Rashad Roland Kirk, Cecil Bridgewater to name a few.

His activities in the performing arts as a drummer, singer and actor landed him roles as an extra on 'Law & Order', 'Sex and the City', 'Ghostbusters', commercials and recently joining the Family Repertory Company of Manhattan.

To pay the bills James worked as public safety and security officer.

He had a love of all things spiritual, the love of God leading his life, bible study and attending church services. During these COVID era restrictions, he enjoyed watching the WORD NETWORK for his daily dose of faith.

James was a Master Mason, a member of the Great Kills Lodge No.912, F&A.M. Staten Island, NY following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather both Master Masons as well.

He was the life of the party, enjoying dancing and loved all genres of music and 'could whine down to de ground' with the best of them! Bowing to his Caribbean heritage he vibed to soca, reggae and afropop music. Family and friends always looked forward to his attendance at their parties.

He is survived by his sister Joy Grant, brother Aaron Jackson, uncle Anthony H. Grant.

First Cousins Denise Harris, Dr. Neville Duncan, Patricia Watson, Dr. Phillip Duncan, Joan Gibbs, Jean Grant, Tony Grant, Richard Grant and a host of loving family members.
