In loving memory of Jalen Victor Wayne Thomas, a remarkable soul who graced this world with his presence, we gather to celebrate a life that touched countless hearts. Jalen, aged 29, transitioned on March 6th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love.

Born on March 14, 1995, in Staten Island, Jalen was the cherished child of his parents, Wayne Thomas Sr. and Diane Perry Thomas. His early years were spent in the vibrant neighborhoods of New Brighton and West Brighton. At a very young age, he was introduced to the entire neighborhood, and everyone fell in love with him. He became everyone’s baby brother. Although he grew to tower over everyone, that sentiment never changed.

Jalen attended PS 16 and McKee High School in St. George. Little did he know, he would be shaped towards a path of service and advocacy where he joined True 2 Life, an integral part of the NYC Crisis Management System, and excelled in his position as Violence Interrupter and Hospital Responder, where he was faithful along with an incredible support team to fostering peace and combating gun violence across Staten Island and New York City.

His impact extended far beyond his professional role. Jalen, affectionately known as “Balen”, will always be remembered for having a heart of gold and radiated warmth to all of those he encountered. If you knew him, you knew how strongly he felt for his family and close friends. His ‘bros’ too became his family. He loved his role as a little brother (and took full advantage of it), as an uncle to his nieces, and most importantly, as a dad. His greatest joy was found in fatherhood. Becoming a dad to Jaci was his pride and joy and his proudest accomplishment.

Jalen leaves behind a constellation of loved ones, each bearing a piece of his spirit. His son, Jaciere, and Jaci’s mother, Nicole, will forever carry his legacy. His mother, Diane, grandmother June, his two sisters – Tanisha and Arlene, his four brothers -- Kevin, Michael, Steven, and Wayne Jr.—share both tears and cherished memories. Along with his precious nieces and nephews—Jada, Kaela, Javon, Mykal Jr., Damien, Donovan, Dre, Micah, Makai, Namir, Wynter, Sarai, and Arianna who will grow up with stories of their beloved “Uncle Balen" and a host of cousins, Uncles and Aunts.

Jalen’s infectious smile, his unwavering love, and his commitment will forever echo in our hearts. As we bid farewell for now, we honor the man who stood tall, not only in stature but in the impact he made on those around him. He was one of a kind and can never be replaced. We love you, J. Rest in Paradise!
