Grant McLemore Obituary

Grant Michael McLemore affectionately known as “Thumb” made his debut in Harlem on December 28, 1969 to parents Harvey Grant McLemore and Sara “Sunny” Lanzar. Grant is preceded in death by his father, his mother, brother and fashion designer, Harvey Grant McLemore Jr.; his two favorite aunts, Alma and TiTi Rita; his uncle, “Bubbly” and his cousin, Darrell.

Grant was primarily raised in The Bronx ( home of The Yankees  and the birthplace of Hip Hop which he loved both). He loved a fitted blue Yankee cap and a fresh white T-shirt. the impact he made in people's lives will forever stay alive and continue on for him. As you may know Grant was known by many names over his lifetime whether you know him as Michael, Jaquan, Jay or as his preferred name in his adult years as Grant you know he was a force to be reckoned with, a master of  humor and of course a charming personality like no other. In his early years he was surrounded and influenced by the Italian culture and, therefore, loved all things Italian; from the cuisine, spices, mafia movies to his signature, “diamond pinkie ring”. The one known consistent correlation with Grant was his love for the most luxurious things whether it was clothing, watches/ accessories, his hats, even with his meals he had a palette of the highest quality and most of all his esteemed Cadillac Escalade which had to be upgraded ever so often. Whenever you saw Grant you would see him pull up in his beautiful shiny Cadillac with a smile on his face and the music bass turned up high.

He also embraced his Nuyorican(New York/Puerto Rican) heritage and enjoyed the delicious food and drink in the Cuchifritos of his Bronx neighborhoods. He loved to cook, he was an avid swimmer, he enjoyed rollerblading with his friends and quite the prankster. He also loved history and discussing current events.

Determined to fight the odds that were set against him throughout his life he made it a lifelong mission to provide for his family and give them the life he wasn’t blessed to receive, and this mission was happily achieved. he found his niche and settled into the Hospitality industry and worked at several NYC hotels. As a result of his hospitality experience, work ethic and knack for networking, Grant evolved into an ambitious entrepreneur and started his own mobile Personal Concierge Service. Through his concierge service, Grant found himself in the company  of celebrities, artists, musicians, diplomats and other successful entrepreneurs as friends and clients. Grant proudly served and dedicated himself to his craft up until his passing.

While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a lifelong friend and loved one in him. For most there are endless stories & memories of his humor & witty timing, his fearless roar, his amazing driving skills and of course him being a glorious pain in the neck which he proudly owned. He made sure to be reliable, strong & supportive and always protect his loved ones like no other. There was so much more to him that words can never illustrate..

Thankfully his strong genes blessed this world with 3 children who all show both physical and personal attributes of him. The beautiful Gap Tooth, the big ears that he was so confidently proud of and the thick full hair (that he had before he went bald) and of course his happiest trait to pass down was his vibrant strong personality. Grant always jokingly but in all seriousness made it known his children got their good looks from him.

Grant not only leaves behind a strong legacy of the name, “Grant”, which his sons and grandson all share, but he leaves an impression of a strong-willed, determined strength of a man who against the odds fought a good fight and endured to the end.

We Love You and will miss you always, Grant Michael McLemore.
