Elvetta “LV” Harris (nee Wiley) was born on September 18, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York, raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, to Anna Louise Wiley, (nee Brannon) of Cheraw, South Carolina, and John Wesley Wiley, of Bessemer, Alabama, the sixth child born to this union.

LV attended Edward R. Murrow HS, and went on to earn degrees from City University of New York - New York City Technical College, Applied Associates in Science and Bachelor of Science in Technology in Graphic Arts Production Management; the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Masters of Science in Instructional Technology - with Distinction; and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Leadership Academy receiving both School Building Leadership and School District Leadership Certifications

Although she started in New York civil services working for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, for 20 years LV enjoyed a wonderful career as an innovative Technology Educator with the New York City Department of Education. She has served as an Instructional Technology Coordinator for District 3, Manhattan.  Having facilitated numerous technology curriculum development workshops for teachers and administrators, she also had administrative experience as an Instructional Technology Coordinator for District 3-NYC, served on School Leadership Teams (SLT's), was the Program Coordinator of the 21st Century AfterSchool Program at Middle School 44, District 3, and served as the Director of Community Service Middle School 44-NYC. She held a New York State Permanent K-12 Teachers license, and also has her New York State School Building Leader/School District Leader Licensing for the State of New York.

Finding spiritual grounding in her indigenous roots, she also held true to being a proud, strong Black woman who knew who she was and always sought to support her communities.   LV served as the secretary for the Brooklyn Chapter of the Black Panther Party during her youth; became an educator, and was a committed and dedicated member of AA for 27 years. Always working the Steps and reaching out and supporting those who were ‘new to the rooms’, too.

In the last few years, LV made a point to see every Star Wars movie produced in the theater; adventured to China and “walked that dang on Wall”; and embraced the honorific of “Tomi”, her official title as grandmother. Pouring her love for visual arts, music, and dance into the early years of her grandchildren, she could often be caught cracking a smile seeing the works that they produced, or hearing them at a recital.

On Friday, February 4, 2022, Elvetta, LV, fought the good fight—she finished her race and was “Called Home”. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother's, Dennis Wesley Wiley, and LCPL Gilbert Wesley Wiley (Vietnam War - United States Marine Corps), and her sister, Joan W. Patterson (nee Wiley). She will be held in loving remembrance by Andy Georgiou; Son, Rashard Duawan (1st marriage), Daughter, Aja Lisa (2nd marriage); Brother, Theodore Richardson, Brother, John Wesley Wiley, Jr.; Grandson, A’jani Harris-Tucker; Granddaughters, Arianna Unique Harris, Jo’ali Harris-Tucker; Daughter-in-Law, Josephine Tucker; Sister-in-Law, Mary Louise Richardson; Nieces, Kenya Perkins (nee Gumbs), Brandi Richardson, Crystal Sanford; Nephews, Rodney Sanford, Derwin Sanford, Michael Sanford; Nephew-in-Law, Grant Perkins; Great Niece, Diamond Frank; Great Nephew, Kendrick Perkins; Great Great Nephew King Jackson, and a lifetime of friends that are innumerable to name, but will always remain in our hearts.
