A native Staten Islander, Donald Everett West was born April 17, 1932, to Rudolph and Cassandra

West the seventh of nine children, He graduated Port Richmond High School, joined the Navy serving 8 years and was honorably discharged as a Second-Class Petty Officer. He worked for the

New York City Transit Authority for 25 years starting as a token clerk and ending as a bus driver. After retirement he drove a shuttle bus.

 

Donald married the late Tallulah West (nee Augcamfar) in 1959; a union that lasted over sixty

years and produced two children.

After retirement his activities included working out at the gym, attending a gym-populated breakfast club, a lunch club, attending St. Philips Baptist church while joining the Men’s Chorus

and serving as treasurer of the Chorus.

He is survived by his children Lisa and Blaise West, his sister Shirley Artis, and a host of nieces,

nephews, and friends
