David Hudson, fondly known as Dave by most, was born in Linden, Alabama on April 8, 1946 to the late Richard Hudson and the late Fannie McGrew. He had many nicknames as a child and as an adult, including Sonny Boy, Hut, DeDe (pronounced DayDay), Uncle Dave and to his granddaughter, Angelia, he was Grandpa.

He attended George P. Austin High School where he was an all-around sports star playing basketball, football, and baseball - a triple threat. Hut was the nickname that came from playing sports so well.  He was somewhat of a legend in his hometown of Linden because of his sports prowess. He graduated from his high school in good standing in 1966.

Following graduation David moved to New York where some of his extended family members relocated. He began his career at the Willowbrook State School in Staten Island, then moved over to the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities. He worked there for 33 years, retiring in 2001. In his adulthood he continued playing baseball as a member of the Meeting Place Hardball Team.

While Dave made a career with the developmentally disabled, he was a skilled carpenter by trade assisting numerous people and businesses with repairs.  He served as a carpenter for Mt. Sinai United Christian Church for many years - he built a garage-sized storage shed for the church from the ground up.  Many witnessed him build the arch that he walked under to take his beautiful bride to the altar.  David joined Mt. Sinai United Christian Church in 1996. That is where he met his wife, Rev. Linda Hudson.  He was a gentleman and after courting they were married in 1998, and remained happily married for the 24 years, until his passing. Rev. Hudson fondly remembers David’s sentiment about the woman he knew he would marry from the moment he met her, “Lady, my whole world is you.” Those are the words to a Johnny Taylor song, and David said that is exactly how he felt about his wife, and she felt the same and will miss him dearly.

Dave liked to laugh, joke and have a good time.  He loved to host family gatherings where he was able to showcase his grilling skills.  Dave never forgot his roots, he would take the long drive down to Linden for Homecoming festivities.

David leaves to mourn many loved ones, including: his wife, Rev. Linda Hudson; his siblings Fred McGrew, Mary Williams, and Cindy McKnight; his children Everett Wayne Walker, Kevin Hudson, Min. Victor Nicholson, Jasmine Navarrette (husband Jeffrey), Tiffany Thomas (husband Antonio), and Anansa Carthen; his grandchildren Tyriq, Nathaniel, Angel, Jadon, Benjamin, Quentin (better known as Q), and Boaz; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Two brothers, Earl Little and Jimmy McGrew, predeceased David. David will be missed by many and will be remembered fondly.
