Claudette Barry Obituary

In Loving Memory of Claudette Barry 10/13/1943 -5/6/2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving, caring, kindhearted, supportive, adoring, and loyal mother, wife, daughter, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt and friend. She was beloved by many family, friends, and students who had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with her.

Claudette who lived in New Brighton, Staten Island was married to Clarence Barry Sr. for 43 years.  She was also mother to Caren Branche Fall (Mafatime Fall), Michelle Branche Jack (Winston Jack), Clarence Jr., and Cordell (Juanita Barry). Claudette was born in Guyana, South America.  She worked as a Home Economics teacher there, then at Cayman Brac High School in the Cayman Islands, and at the Selebi Phikwe's Boikhutso Junior Secondary School in Botswana before migrating to the United States in 2005.  Prior to migrating to Botswana from Guyana, Claudette worked with Carnegie School of Home Economics, Caricom Secretariat: REPAHA, and operated her Catering service with her husband who complemented her. She catered for weddings, parties, and other social gatherings, and baked and iced many wedding cakes for friends and family which she totally enjoyed.

In the United States, she continued work as a Manager in Food Service with the NYC Office of School Food until retiring in 2017 and volunteered weekly at the ArchCare Senior Life Center on St. Marks Place, Staten Island until January 2020.  Claudette traveled the world and was sister, friend, and teacher to many, beloved by all.

She lived a great life; our one regret about her life is that she died from complications caused by the Coronavirus, and we could not be by her side during her time of pain and suffering.

Claudette was a vibrant, fun-loving woman who loved to laugh. She was a true caretaker who loved to feed and entertain her family and friends. She was the glue--the lifeline--that held everyone in our family together and welcomed anyone who was introduced to her. She was a true friend and companion to her loving husband, Clarence. We adored and admired her. She is survived by her mother, Lynette Porter, two aunts, Doris Griffith & Olive Mathurin, husband, mother-in-law, Eula Barry, four children, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, Candice Branche, Michelé Canzius, Christine McWatt, & Dennis Boston, two great-grandchildren, Devannie Velanti & Dahlia Boston, three siblings, Victoria Canterbury, Gordon, and Wainwright Doobay, cousins Yvonne Obrien, Joslyn  France, Horace France, Robert Harding, David Griffith, and countless other relatives. She is also survived by numerous friends but would be remiss if we did not mention her long time friends Elsie Trotman, Aileen Garrett, Juliet Henry, Dawn Brathwaite, Pamela Rodney, Sharon Armstrong, Martilla Beckles-Sparman, and Phillmenia Richmon-Jones.

Claudette is gone, but she will live on in our hearts forever.
