Charlotte Christine Pettaway-Thompson passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 25, 2024 at Highland Care Nursing Home Center.

Charlotte was born on August 21, 1943 to parents Frank and Charlotte Pettaway in Tarboro, North Carolina. She was a member and baptized at Saint James Temple Baptist Church. She graduated from W. A. Pattillo High School in 1963.

Charlotte left N.C. for New York City, seeking a better life. It was there that she met the love of her life Earl Thompson, a NYC Transit Bus Mechanic, with whom she married in 1968 and would build a family. They bought a cozy and gracious home in Cambria Heights, NY where they raised two beautiful daughters Darlene and Belinda Thompson. She devoted her time and energy as an active member of the SDA Mount Sinai Church. She cherished her bible and its teachings and took solace in knowing the lord was watching over her and her family. Charlotte worked as a receptionist, retiring after 31 years from Marsh & McClennan Corporate Headquarters in Manhattan. The crowning glory for Charlotte was the arrival of her grandson Earl and great-grandson Josiah. She loved spending time at family get togethers, cookouts and traveling. She also enjoyed watching movies and cooking up various tasty and spicy dishes. Charlotte’s life can best be summed up by being rich in family love, food and fun. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
We are deeply saddened by her loss and truly thankful for the time spent with her.

Charlotte entered eternal rest on March 25, 2024 joining her parents, her daughter Belinda and two brothers Marvin Earl and Robert Pettaway. She is survived by her daughter Darlene Vaughan of Staten Island, NY; grandson Earl Vaughan (Shatroya) of Staten Island and great-grandson Josiah. Four loving sisters, Magalene Jones (Russell) of Tarboro, NC; Marie Arrington of Brooklyn, NY; Rosa Pettaway of Princeville, NC; Claudia Williams (Roy) of Rocky Mount, NC; three devoted brothers, Frank Pettaway of Rocky Mount, NC; Curtis Pettaway (Gloria Jeannie) of Islip Terrace, NY and James Carnell Pettaway of Baldwin, NY. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was especially thankful for the love, time and support given by her sister Marie.
