Arthur Bernard Gravely, Sr., age 78 transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday August 10, 2023. Arthur was born at Burrell Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia on February 6, 1945 to the late Eddie Henry Gravely, Sr., and Mary Richardson Gravely. Arthur attended Lucy Addison High School and graduated in 1964. Shortly after graduating Arthur travelled up North to New York to visit his brother and loved NY so much he made it his new place of residence. Arthur settled in Staten Island and was employed there at a clothing manufacturer where he worked for many years as a Presser. In 2001 he moved Upstate to Utica, New York with his late wife Denise Whitted where he resided until 2022.
Arthur known to many as “Jeep” or “Big Jeep” was a very reserved, humble, kind, and affectionate father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Arthur loved his family and people in general. He enjoyed socializing. He gave everyone he came in contact with a nickname. Jeep was known for his natural sense of humor. His favorite pastime was watching sports; specifically football, college basketball and boxing with family and friends, listening to music and dancing. During the later part of his life he enjoyed watching CNN daily.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Eddie Henry Gravely, Sr., and Mary Richardson Gravely, sister Gloria Richardson Gravely Theckepera, brother Eddie H. Gravely, Jr., wife Denise Whitted, nephew Eddie H. Gravely III and ex-wife Nadine Gravely.
Arthur the youngest of his siblings was survived by children: Amelia Gravely-Darkinson (Roger), Arthur Gravely, Jr. (Ingrid), Arturo Burton, Sean Whitted, Shante Whitted, Raheem Whitted, Rashawna Whitted, Yvette Gravely and Dashana Gravely. Grandchildren: Jabari, Arthur, India, Shawn, Maya, Artez, Aymia, Sherod, Najee, Nia, Kalim, Zyad, Danaeyah, Isaiah and Elijah. Great-grandchildren: Aurianna, Asia’na, Amir, A’nyla, Milanii, Jace, Jade, Jaya, Zamari, Adrian, Antonio, Zayona, Say’vion and Zayden. Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and good friends.
Arthur was truly loved and will be missed by his entire family and friends. Our love and fond memories of him will be kept in our hearts always and forever.
