Janet Wilson

Janet M. Wilson was born in Harlem, New York on September 8, 1948

to the late father & mother Mr. Willis J. Wilson Sr. and Alice Mae Wilson.

She lived in Harlem, New York.

When she was a child and moved with her parents to Brooklyn, NY in the 1960’s. In 1970's Janet and her family moved to Staten Island, NY.

In the early 1960's Ms. Wilson attended St. Ambrose School in Brooklyn NY.

She graduate from Prospect Heights High School “Class ChatterBox” was her nickname.

She continued her studies graduating with B.A. Degree from Richmond College in S.I, NY

and her Master’s Degree in the early 1980’s making the Dean’s list.

Janet was affiliate with many organizations: Janet was a delegate with the Staten Island Democratic Associates for life. She worked hard getting her community information out to all who participate voting for the next candidate, She conducted voter education workshops, helping to promote woman and people of color to run for elected office.

She helped to organize the Park Hill Civic Associates and coordinated the Street Olympics throughout the city, by promoting good sportsmanship. She served on Community Board #1 for 6 years and was on the area policy board for 4 years, helping to make recommendations for the City's Anti-Poverty Funds for Children. 

Janet also helped heal communities and school relations at the New Dorp High School in S.I. NY and helped youths seek summer employment. She was a Liaison for 1199 union in mid 1990's. She was the political chairperson for the Staten Island section of NCNW.

Janet worked in Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson & Obama conventions and coordinated island campaigns for Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Dinkins, Census 2000. She also was a member of the National Council for Black Women.

Janet was a 2000 NAACP Honoree and honored with the William A. Morris Humanitarian Award at the diamond jubilee celebration of the Staten Island Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Ms. Wilson was a founder and member of the following organizations: The Staten Island Women's Political Caucus for 16 years, The Sister in Support in Staten Island, Former President and founding member of the Staten Island African - American Political Association. She was a chairperson for the Coalition of Black Trade Unionist (CBTU) and Cobed organization. She appeared on the CTV show “The Alexander Report” giving “color’ commentary on political issues.

Janet Wilson enter the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 to be with our Lord.

She leaves her family to cherish her memory: sister: Rita Dalrymple, brother in-law: David Dalrymple, sister: Judy Georges-Wilson, sister Phyllis Wilson, brother Willis Wilson, sister in-law: Tracey Wilson & nephews: Joshua & Jeremy Wilson. First cousins: Paula Roper & William Roper and host of cousins and friends.
