Gwendolyn Elizabeth Martinez, to everyone she was just “Tia Nani” died of natural causes on January 24, 2024. She touched her family and friends in some small way throughout her very memorable life.
Gwendolyn was born in Tela, Honduras, on September 6, 1930, to Alejandro Rich and Violet Buchel-Rich. She completed her formal education in Honduras. Gwendolyn migrated to the United States in 1960, settled in Brooklyn, New York, where she began working as a housekeeper in numerous hotels. Gwendolyn known to family and friends as “Tia Nani” was a great and funny aunt to everyone that met her. She married Roman Martinez in the 70’s the couple had no children. Tia Nani was a social, active woman who loved to dance and cook for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her family and friends will always remember her as a social butterfly.
Tia Nani leaves to celebrate her life, her daughter’s Yvonne and Tesla and her son Nelson, grandchildren’s and numerous great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her Mother Violet, father Alejandro and her eight siblings, her two sons Bill and Rene Ethan.
