Charles Bryan Shaw was born on December 3, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York to Charles William and Eloise Shaw. Charles was the second of four sons. Charles was educated in the New York Public School System. He has worked since the age of fourteen. He graduated from high school and continued to higher education. As a young man, he was a DJ and he loved playing handball.

On June 6, 1987, Charles married Evangeline Spencer, the love of his life. They were married by the late Rev. Dr. Johnnie G. McCann, Sr., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Charles and Evangeline have a daughter-Shaniquea and a bonus daughter- Lateefa. Charles loved his daughters and adored his six grandchildren. Charles, was more affectionately known to many, as “Devine or Bryan.” He decided to return to school to further his education, as he was very talented and intelligent. Charles graduated from Nassau Community College with an associate in science degree. After graduating with his associates, Charles enrolled in Farmingdale State College and graduated in 2012 with honors with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Charles pursued more education and enrolled in Dowling College and graduated in 2014 with his Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management.

For fifteen years, Charles worked in retail in a variety of popular establishments, as well as in the garment district. Charles worked tirelessly for twenty years for Bloomingdale’s Brothers Department Store. He had over thirty-five years of experience in retail and customer service until his retirement.

Charles loved his family, his wife Evangeline, his daughters, and his six grandchildren. Charles loved music of all kinds. He was a sports enthusiast and was an avid New York Jets fan, during the good and the bad seasons. Charles loved to watch wrestling and boxing on any given Saturday night, football on Sundays and basketball whenever it came on. Charles was a member of Perfecting Faith Church under the leadership of the Senior Pastor-Rev. Donald McClurkin, Jr. Charles was generous beyond tithing to his church, and would give you the shirt off his back. He gave to such charities as St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation and St Matthew’s Church.

                On February 13, 2024, Charles Bryan Shaw, 65 of Hempstead New York, was suddenly called home to be with our Lord and Savior-Jesus Christ.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 36 years-Evangeline Spencer- Shaw; three brothers Kenneth, Scott and Galen Shaw; his children Shaniquea Kirk, husband Douglas. and Lateefa Covington, husband Allen; his six grandchildren Allen Josiah "AJ", Jeremiah, Douglas, Jr. "Scoop", Destiny "Missy", Jocelyn and Desirae "Me-mama"; his dear nephew Terry Middough; three brothers-in-law- Clyde Spencer, Frank Spencer, Harold Spencer (Marjorie); five sisters-in-law Marie Middough, Elsie Pennington (Edward), Louise Woodson, Brenda Johnson (Dennis), Loretta Spencer, and one godson-Johnnie G. McCann, Jr. Charles will surely be missed by his immediate family, nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends, colleagues, and neighbors.

“Sleep on Charles, take your rest, we loved you dearly, but GOD loved you best.”
