Steven   Robert   Rhodes   was  born  in  Canarsie,  Brooklyn,  New  York   on  January 5, 1949 the oldest son of Calvin and Ruthamae Rhodes. He made his transition to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday January 14, 2017 after a massive stroke.

Steve was educated under the New York City Public School System and graduated from Westinghouse High School where he majored in Optical Design.  Steve loved making eye glasses and continued with this trade for his entire life.  He joined NYPD School Safety after 911 and was known as OG (Old Guy) by his co-workers.

A man full of life, who loved his wife, his children, his family, his friends and his music.  He made the telephone company rich because he loved the telephone and spoke with multiple family members daily, sometimes two or three times a day.  He called his wife every afternoon and always said I am on the bus and will be home shortly, did you cook?  A retired person who left the house early everyday with a suit and tie and had no job. But Steve created his own job by being an entrepreneur, he made eye glasses from three different locations, sold perfumes for men and women.

Steve loved to shop and selected top shelf designer men’s clothing, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Macys, Century 21, just to name a few.  He loved to dress well and go to any type of affair, formal, semi-formal or casual just to show off from his shoes to his high-priced hats and always looking good.  But he shopped with a purpose and always looked for a sale when shopping, he did not pay full price for any of his items.  He would shop for himself and was also a personal shopper for many of his friends and co-workers.

In Canarsie, Steve was known a “Lefty” and to his wife and family he was “Stevie”, he was well loved because he had a heart of gold and was consistent in his willingness to share.  The great comedian, he always had everyone laughing at his comments and jokes for he loved to talk and had much to say.  He loved sports especially baseball and talked to Dibit every day in and out of baseball season, CNN and ESPN was his favorite TV programs along with Atlanta Housewives on Bravo.  He loved his jazz, Phyllis Hyman, Angela Bofill and taking his daughters and his wife to the Blue Note to see George Duke, Paul Hardcastle to name a few.  Stevie loved to dance and he could hustle, cha cha, salsa and swing; Stevie could dance to any music that was played and enjoyed the experience.  Stevie and Carolyn traveled extensively two to three trips a year, enjoying the Soul Train Cruise, Panama Canal Cruise and the various beaches around the globe.  For one who could not swim, Stevie was always in the water either in his backyard , in someone else’s pool or at the beach, he loved water.

To cherish his memory, Stevie leaves his beloved wife, Carolyn, his children, two daughters Denise and Kim, one son Kasiem, Shawn (pre-deceased his father) and one step son Gerard; brothers and wives, Glen and Linda, Caliph and Arlette, Acu and Tamara, seven grandchildren, Shawndela, Shawn, Gary Jr., Shaniqua, Amber, Bria, Gabriel; one great grandson Devillo; Aunts Julia, Dorothy, Fannie, Barbara; Uncle George; Godmother Jessie Johnson and a host of cousins,  family and friends to mourn his memory.
