Our beloved Rosalie Garner was born at St. Vicent’s Hospital on March 7, 1952 on Staten Island where she was raised and resided her entire life.  Rosalie went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2017 at Richmond University Medical Center at the age of 65.

Rosalie worked various jobs in her lifetime.  She was employed at Masters Department Store where she met her husband of 41 years James Lee Garner Jr.  They were joined in marriage on May 13, 1976.  Rosalie entered employment at Project Hospitality where she remained for 30 years where she was lovingly known as “Momma Rose”.  During her time there she was a missionary in the facility as well as on the streets of Staten Island where she would feed people both natural and spiritual food that crossed her path.  Rosalie loved the Lord and didn’t hesitate to give a Word or Testimony.

Rosalie loved to cook for family and friends especially on Christmas in her home to bring her family together.  Her doors were always open to everyone.  She was known for her signature crispy fried chicken.  Her smile would light up the room and she would always have an encouraging word.  Her most noted saying at the end of her conversations was “Be Encouraged”.  Words can not express how deeply she will be missed by all.

Preceding her in death is her mother Mary Buckner and father Estell Buckner, five brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband James Lee Garner Jr., her two daughters Kishia Buckner and Linda Garner Hobbs, her grandchildren Marriah Lenhardt, Elijah Hedrington and unborn grandson, son-in-laws Esmond Hedrington and Jay Michael Hobbs.  Also, her brother James Buckner, her son/nephew who she raised George Dowtin, her adopted son Bruce Emory and adopted daughter Helen Pratt, three brother-in-laws, two sister-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted grandchildren and the longtime friends in her community that loved her.

Please consider making a donation to raise much needed funds to cover the funeral expenses.

No donation is too small and your support would be greatly appreciated.
