Maria Alvarez-Diaz was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was loved by every single person that she met and touched the hearts of so many people that were fortunate enough to know her. She loved helping others but most of all she loved her family. Maria was devoted to being a mentor and a motivator to her family especially her son, daughter, and grandchildren. She was a Knicks fan and would enjoy watching games with her grandson. She enjoyed reading her bible, spending time with her family, playing with her dog Maximus, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, but most of all she loved to cook. Even in her last days she always made sure she cooked for her family. 

She was a woman of great strength with a heart of gold. On February 25th 2017  Maria passed away at 12:25pm in Staten Island University Hospital after a long battle with emphysema and asthma. As a family we will forever hold on to the lessons she taught us in our lives and will continue to carry on her amazing legacy. 

Maria is survived by her daughter Ilian Roman-Adorno, Her Son Ernesto Roman Jr., and her grandsons Kenneth Martinez Jr, Christian Martinez, and Michael Martinez, her granddaughters Ashley Roman and Tiffany Acevedo, and six great grandchildren.
