Linda Sue Ganzy of New Brighton, born September 21, 1949, exchanged time for eternity on Monday, January 9, 2017, at Richmond County Medical Center.  A native Staten Islander, Linda was the oldest of four daughters born to the late Elmer and Mary Cooper

Linda was educated in the public schools of Staten Island.  She attended elementary School at P.S. 16 and graduated from the Curtis High School Co-op Work/Study Program in 1967.  After graduation, she worked as a secretary in New York City.  She later married the late James Ganzy and to this union was born one son, Darren Leroy Ganzy, Sr.  Instead of returning to work, Linda devoted herself to raising her young son and the many other young children she cared for in a daycare facility that she opened in her home.   Years later Linda took a position as Administrative Assistant for the Neighborhood Youth Corp and earned a promotion to Assistant to the Director.  After budget cuts resulted in being laid off, Linda reopened the daycare in her home.  She was known for her love and compassion for children.  She lovingly gave every child a nickname. Until her passing adults whom she cared for as children still greeted her with love and enthusiasm whenever and wherever they saw her.

In 1985 Linda accepted a civil service job at the US Postal Service as a mail handler for the Business Mail Entry Unit (BMEU).  For over thirty years neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stayed her from the swift completion of her appointed duty.  Linda Sue Ganzy was a conscientious, trustworthy employee and served in her position with pride and dedication.

Linda was a faithful lifelong member of the Rossville A.M.E. Zion Church.  She served as Local President for both the Women’s Home and Overseas Mission Society and the Lay Council.  She was a Deaconess and an Usher.  Linda was the baker for the Bread of Life Ministry that prepares hot, home-cooked meals and serve them to homeless clients at the Project Hospitality Drop-in Center the third Monday of every month. She was one of God’s Deputies for the Posse, a ministry whose sole purpose is to do good deeds for anyone who needs some JTLC (Jesus’ Tender Loving Care).

Linda also served as Secretary of the Jersey City District Lay Council and the Rossville AME Zion Church Delegate to the New Jersey Annual Conference for many years and was a supporter of the United Ushers of the Jersey City District.

Linda enjoyed shopping, but would only buy if the price was right. She liked baking cakes, pies and all kinds of delicious deserts. No one ever got enough of her signature chewy brownies. She enjoyed family vacations and she loved vacationing with her girlfriends, the Divas.  She worked diligently raising funds for her church, doing missionary work, and representing her church at conferences and events; and she loved every minute of it.  She spoiled her son rotten preparing special meals for him and now, Darren said of himself “I need a babysitter.” (Family Please help.)

Linda was so full of life.  “No” was not in her vocabulary.  She lived a life worthy of the calling that the Lord so graciously extended to her (Ephesians 4:1) because she really loved the Lord.  Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Linda was charming and beautiful, and she feared the Lord and she was greatly praised and is sorely missed already.

She leaves to cherish her memory son Darren Leroy Ganzy, Sr. and companion Ann Alston; two granddaughters, Darryanna Hearn and Tyest Ganzy; one grandson Darren Jr.; two great grandchildren; mother, Mary Cooper; three sisters and three brothers-in-law Elmira John (Alfred); Janice Taylor (Gregory) and Vickie Taylor (Carl),  a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and three “adopted” children, Toshia Owens, Raymond and Daniel Charles.
