Carla Yvonne Cornick was born on August 14th, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Evelyn M. Cornick and the late Robert L. Cornick. Carla attended Public School 45 in Brooklyn, J.H.S at Roy H. Mann in Brooklyn, and graduated from Bay Ridge High School. She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the College of Staten Island and her master's degree in social services from Hunter College, and working on her PHD in social work. Carla enjoyed completing and achieving milestones in her field.

Carla worked for the office of the State Comptroller for many years before she went to join the City of New York Department of Child Services. In 2008, Carla became Past Mtron of Silver Queen Chapter #43 Prince Hall Order of Eastern Star Inc. State of New York. She served as their Worthy Matron in 2014 and appointed in 2015 to serve as the Grand District Marshall for the 2nd District Under the Jurisdiction of the Eureka Grand Chapter.

Carla became ill five years ago and was hospitalized many times within this period. Often her condition was critical but she was a fighter and kept her spirits high and believed heavily in God's word. Carla passed away on October 30th, 2016 in Manhattan. She leaves to mourn her two daughters: Johnika La Ray Manuel, Sequioa Lucinda Brown, and one grandson Savion Emmit Mothersill. She also leaves behind a sister Traci Hayes (Rufus) and two brothers Robert Cornick (Yvonne) and Reuben Cornick along with her longtime friend Wilbert Brown, Two aunts, and two great aunts Thelma Moore and Martha Basknight, Five nieces and six great nieces, three nephews and three great nephews, cousins Cynthia Thomas, Michelle and Larry, godmother Thelma Vaughn and a host of family and friends.
